It seems fall is here to stay. Yay!!! Around our house the arrival of fall means full blown front yard makeover. And where do we start? Why with the infamous PANSY. We love to tease my husband about his infatuation with pansies. There’s just so much material there-after all this is the big 6 foot teddy bear that wore pink on our first date! Yep, during fall he’s just our Big PANSY! You see, we don’t just plant 20-30. No, at our house it’s a true PANSY takeover. I believe last year the count was 325. Yes, you read that right. Three hundred and twenty five. I’m not sure my man’s fascination with these delicate, yet hardy flowers, but his love has become our love. So this weekend, as I relish in the cool weather, enjoy getting dirt under my nails and laugh with my girls, we will transform our yard. It seems a little over the top and to some it may even seem crazy. For us though it has become a tradition. A time we have come to enjoy, laugh about, and take pride in. One day, only too soon, the girls won’t be here to join in our little PANSY fest. But, that is not where I will let my thoughts go this weekend. No, this weekend I will enjoy the moment. I’ll take it slow. I’ll let my gaze linger a minute longer on the smiling faces of those I hold dearest. I’ll be thankful once again. My mind is already thinking of the lessons held in these colorful flowers, but I think I’ll wait and share those thoughts on Monday.
I thought I’d post a few “before” pictures. As you can see we’ve already begun a little. I’ll post the end product Monday. In a sea of colorful pansies we will hopefully arrange some pumpkins and mums. The fall wreath was made and hung last weekend, so the porch will get a few more pots, maybe a new door mat and without doubt its own set of pumpkins and mums.
